Before scheduling a waxing session, it's essential to know the type of wax being used. Familiarizing yourself with the differences between hard and soft wax can help ensure a smoother experience. As experienced waxing professionals, we recommend hard wax for most services. Here’s a breakdown of both types:
Soft Wax
Soft wax has been widely used in the industry and is often what most people think of when it comes to waxing. It requires a cloth strip for removal and is generally applied to larger areas. This wax is spread in a thin layer across the skin, and a strip is pressed on top to pull the hair away. Afterward, an oil or wax remover is typically applied to clear any residue.
While all waxing provides some exfoliation, soft wax tends to be more aggressive in removing dead skin cells because it sticks to the skin, not just the hair. This can increase the risk of irritation, and technicians usually avoid treating the same spot twice. Additionally, soft wax requires higher temperatures, increasing the chance of burns.
Hard Wax
In contrast, hard wax doesn’t require a strip. It grabs onto the hair without sticking to the skin, allowing technicians to reapply wax to the same area if needed without risking skin damage. Applied thicker than soft wax, it hardens on the skin and is peeled off once it sets. This method offers less discomfort and a gentler hair removal process.
